About the Papakaio8hour

Following on from a most successful inaugural Papakaio 8 Hour Mountain Bike Challenge last year, a group of private landowners have agreed to exclusively open up their properties again for 21st of March 2020.

The course is 8 km with 170m elevation of rolling terrain open to individuals, competitive teams of up to 4, or social teams of up to 10 people. The winning team loops the most times round the course, starting and finishing in our event village in Willow Park. The race is being professionally timed and adjudicated, offering a premiere mountain biking experience right here in Oamaru.

There will be multiple commercial outlets, including food, drink entertainment etc. There will be things for children to do in a family friendly atmosphere. Our aim is to organise an event that will put Papakaio on the map for mountain biking enthusiasts.

We would also like to invite you to:

  1. Spread this on your networks
  2. Promote this with people who may be interested
  3. Put it on your events calendar

Sadly the hard decision has been made to cancel the Papakaio8Hour mountain bike challenge 2020, due to public health concerns.

To our school community, wider Papakaio community, land owners, riders, supporters, sponsors and suppliers, we thank you whole heartedly for you support this far, and would like to let you know, we will be in touch with you all over the coming days to arrange the next steps.

We look forward to being able to bring you a fabulous event in early 2021.
